Lead by force of nature Emily Scarrat, the England Women’s Rugby Sevens team were victorious at the penultimate 2016 World Rugby Sevens series tournament in Canada.

England took on New Zealand in the final match of the tournament, having already beaten reigning champions Australia in the semi-finals. A difficult first half saw them lagging behind 14-7, yet an outstanding second-half performance left the scores at 31-14 meaning England’s women took home the trophy.
“We really are building,” said Emily Scarratt, England women’s rugby sevens squad captain, following the game. “We’ve gone away and worked really hard and that was the product of it.” She added: “We knew it would be a tough game but that if we played to our style we could win. We’re tired but we are very happy.”
